From Chile to Germany, from tax auditing to housekeeping and finally to flexible jobs via app at the Helferei Susana's story shows how different a career restart in Germany can look – and the reasons behind it.
Susana comes from a completely different world, both personally and professionally. Born in Chile, she studied accounting and auditing in her home country. She then worked for two years in the same field at PwC and later at another company in the industry. A classic career path. Until a twist of fate fundamentally changed her life.
After her mother's death, Susana decided to start completely anew in a totally unfamiliar environment. Not because she was dissatisfied with her previous career or seeking further professional advancement. On the contrary: she consciously wanted to break free from her old life, work more closely with people, get to know the world, and give herself the freedom to start completely fresh. She quit her job, left Chile, and moved to Germany. A working holiday visa made this possible.
Today she has been with the company for almost two years. Helferei active. The fact that working with people has become such an important part of her new life in Germany fits this new beginning: Susana is not only our best-rated household helper today, but the best-rated service provider on our entire platform.

The Working Holiday Visa allows young people from Chile and other participating countries to live, travel, and work legally in Germany for a limited time. For Susana, it was an opportunity to start a new chapter after a difficult personal period – and to first find a job in Germany.
Her first job had little to do with her previous office routine: Susana found employment in a hotel, working in housekeeping. There she learned professional cleaning and room maintenance procedures – experience that her clients also benefit from today. Helferei benefit.
To Helferei She finally came to us through a friend. And not just any friend: This friend was one of our first domestic helpers and played a crucial role in establishing the... Helferei to raise awareness within the Latin American community.
Since then, Susana has regularly taken on jobs as a housekeeper and cleaner through our app. Instead of a traditional full-time job, she can combine flexible work in Germany with her daily life and travel plans. She also works as a babysitter for her own clients.
Susana also uses her time in Germany to do what she originally came here for: to get to know new countries, people, and cultures. Anyone who follows her Instagram account gets a pretty good impression of this. Her travels take her all over Germany, Europe, and beyond – from the Northern Lights in Norway to the pyramids in Egypt.
Almost two years after registering with Helferei , Susana has become an indispensable part of our community.
She is now our highest-rated housekeeper – and even the highest-rated service provider across all categories. Clients appreciate not only her reliability and the quality of her work, but many have grown very fond of Susana over time – and vice versa.
Because a regular job can become much more than just an appointment in the calendar over time. Susana gets to know the homes she returns to every week, the people who live there, and their daily routines. With some clients, a familiarity has developed that makes her feel almost at home. It is precisely these personal relationships that Susana particularly values about her work.
And perhaps that's precisely why she's so popular with her clients. Susana approaches people with an incredibly positive, open, and life-affirming attitude. Despite everything that preceded her fresh start in Germany, she radiates a lightness and curiosity that is contagious.
In the video, Susana herself explains why she left Chile, how she started in Germany, and what experiences she had while Helferei and in Germany.

Susana's story also shows something that should help us in the Helferei It's something we encounter time and again: Behind every "housekeeper" or "cleaner" is no single, typical biography. Our employees come from very different educational backgrounds, professions, plans, and life experiences.
Some discover a long-term career path in this work. Others are looking for a flexible part-time job in Germany that fits their current life: for example, they want to earn money alongside their studies or are waiting for their qualifications to be recognized. One of our art curators is just starting out as a freelancer and wants to financially secure her business from the beginning. Other volunteers want to work as independently as possible during their working holiday. Many already have experience in hotels, restaurants, trades, IT, childcare, or other professions, which they can apply during their time here. Helferei can contribute.
Susana's path from PwC via housekeeping to her jobs via app is therefore unusual – and at the same time quite typical for the diversity of people who have found their way through the Helferei work.
