‍Whoactually works at the Helferei? And what makes the difference?

Today we introduce you to Ruben - a real all-round handyman in his spare time with a well-stocked toolbox and a passion for practical tasks. He lives in Berlin Schöneberg, is originally from the Netherlands and has been supporting Helferei since our early days by pursuing one of his favorite hobbies: craftsmanship.

Craftsmanship with purpose: why Ruben does what he does

Ruben's main job is actually in project management. But he loves creating things with his hands in his free time, whether it's assembling furniture, installing lamps or carrying out everyday repairs. Even during his studies, he worked part-time in the construction industry and over time acquired more and more professional tools and aids - drill, cordless screwdriver, measuring tape: everything at the start. "I like practical tasks where you can directly see what you've created at the end," he says. As founders, we can identify with that all too well!

How Ruben came to Helferei

Just two months after moving to Berlin, Ruben discovered a Helferei flyer by chance. He immediately liked the idea: working locally, helping people, being paid fairly and not having to worry about bills or bureaucracy. "I could just get started and Helferei would take care of the rest." Since then, Ruben has taken on many small and large jobs - often just a few streets away from his home.

Personal, social, neighborly - why Ruben appreciates Helferei

" Helferei feels more personal than other platforms - more like neighborhood help. You help real people nearby, not anonymous people somewhere in the city." Depending on the job, he still travels all over Berlin to provide manual help. True to the traditions of his homeland, he does so by bike, of course. The large toolbox on the steering wheel doesn't throw him off balance.

You want to see Ruben in action?

We were allowed to accompany Ruben on a job in Berlin Charlottenburg: Two lamps were to be installed - a challenge for many, but routine for Ruben. With a steady hand, an open ear for feedback and customer requests and, of course, the right equipment, the job was completed quickly. The customer? Satisfied. The mood? Relaxed. Challenges? Of course - but solvable.

Even with experienced craftsmen like Ruben, not everything always goes perfectly:

"Sometimes it's difficult to correctly estimate the work involved in advance - especially with older homes," explains Ruben. It is therefore important to maintain good contact with the customer even before the tradesman starts the job. Whether by phone, WhatsApp or video call. Preparation is the be-all and end-all in the trade. And, of course, patience counts: "People are usually very polite and understanding," says Ruben. "Whether in German or English."

Reliable tradespeople on call - for your neighborhood in Berlin and Munich

Whether small repairs, assembly help or extensive renovation work when moving in - with helpers like Ruben, the Helferei offers professional craftsmen on call in Berlin and Munich. And if you're not looking for an all-round handyman but need expert help: for complex jobs and interior work, we work with trained specialists, including electricians, painters and floor layers. Conclusion: People like Ruben make all the difference: they bring skill and reliability - but they also simply enjoy doing their job. So if you need a lamp installed, a shelf fitted or simply some handyman support, there's a good chance that someone like Ruben will do a reliable job for you. No matter whether you live in Berlin Friedrichshain, Wedding or Prenzlauer Berg - or a few hundred kilometers further south in Munich Maxvorstadt, Munich Neuhausen or the beautiful Glockenbachviertel.
